Daihatsu revived the Midget in 1996, transforming it into a four-wheeled, single-seat vehicle with a unique design. The short and incredibly narrow body featured a bonnet-mounted spare wheel, and a 660cc three-cylinder engine producing 25kW powered the rear wheels. The new Midget was a stylish and compact concept, but it never made it to production.

It features round LED headlights, an airy, glassy cabin with reverse-hinged doors on both sides, and a central driver's seat flanked by two backward-set passenger seats, designed for smaller children. The Midget X is powered by an all-electric drivetrain, but Daihatsu has kept the motor and battery details under wraps. Koji Sato, Toyota's CEO, described the concept as the 'Midget of the Future,' but no production plans were announced.
