On October 27th, a significant event will take place at the Moscow Parliamentary Centre: the ceremonial signing of the Joint Statement by participants of the Parliamentary Movement of the BRICS Capitals. Its initiators envision it as a complementary tool to traditional diplomacy, enhancing the effectiveness of international cooperation and strengthening municipal partnerships. The movement connects the capitals of Brazil, China, India, and South Africa, along with their millions of residents, giving it a truly global dimension.
Key figures and officials will attend the official event, including Konstantin Kosachev and Inna Svyatenko, Deputy Chairpersons of the Federation Council, Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, and Sergey Cheremin, Minister of the Moscow Government and Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow. Representatives from Minsk (Belarus), Brasilia (Brazil), Havana (Cuba), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Tehran (Iran), Tshwane (South Africa), Kampala (Uganda), and Moscow (Russia) will also participate.
Shaposhnikov emphasized the importance of this new format, stating that it opens a new chapter in the international cooperation of major cities. He added that the partnership among representative bodies of key cities will lay a solid foundation for a world order based on equality, trust, and mutual respect. The movement's creation follows a visit by Moscow City Duma deputies to Beijing, where they met with Li Xiulin, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress, and signed a Joint Statement.
The event is a significant step towards fostering international cooperation and strengthening relationships among the BRICS nations, showcasing Moscow's commitment to leading this initiative.
